You may not think it's a big deal if you just walk into a salon for a simple treatment like a manicure or wax. Unfortunately they may be a bigger deal than you think.
It's actually really easy to get infections even for these simple treatments. Especially if proper hygiene procedures aren't followed. From my experience it's absolutely crazy the amount of people who work in salons and don't think about staying clean.
Some people just don't think about it.
But it's common sense isn't it? Just because a salon may not be performing procedures in the same why that a clinic does is no excuse.
In a way that is the problem with certain salons - that hint of unprofessionalism which gives others salons a bad name.
So if you're looking to get a treatment, and want to make a certain salon your "regular". You should look for these things:
- The place doesn't need to be 100% spotless but it should be very clean indeed.
- You can tell alot from just looking at the outside of the salon. It's a good indication of what it's like inside.
- Look for signs & notices inside informing the employees about hygiene. (Make sure they are following rules like the ones here for example.)
- Make sure the equipment looks clean and well washed.
- If you're about to get a treatment (such as waxing or a manicure) and the apparatus looks like it has been used earlier in the day - run away! That place is not clean.
